Transition into Further Education
Information Advice and Guidance is delivered to all pupils from year 7 as part of their weekly timetable to help them prepare for life after school. Pupils in year 11 have a planned and supported work experience which is tailored to meet their needs and ambitions.
Our Information, Advice and Guidance Co-ordinator, Transition Co-ordinator and Work Experience Officer work closely together across the School and College to ensure a smooth transition to further education either at Westgate College or back to colleges in the pupil’s home area.
Pupils transferring to Westgate College benefit from a detailed transition plan which is put in place to ensure consistency.
To help our pupils into further education our transition support includes the following procedure:
- Our local Connexions Officer will attend Annual Reviews and liaise with the
children’s home area Connexions Officers - Transition plans from year 9 are forwarded to the Information, Advice and Guidance Co-ordinator
- Westgate College programme managers attend year 10 and 11 Annual Reviews
- Staff from RSDCM will liaise closely with College staff
- Pupils visit College during educational and residential times
- Year 11 pupils will take part in College programmes as part of their weekly timetable
- Parents and carers are given the opportunity to visit College to look at the resources and programmes on offer and meet staff
