FAQs
Here are some frequently asked questions about our school:
What kind of needs do the pupils have that attend RSDCM?
All of our children have special educational needs. Many of our children have hearing impairment as well as other emotional, behavioural and medical problems.
What does the curriculum consist of?
All pupils have access to a child-centred, broad balance curriculum including the National Curriculum. The curriculum is differentiated for our pupils to enable children to build on strengths and interests whilst developing skills and knowledge.
Are there activites organised outside the curriculum?
We organise various activites such as sports and theatre plays. Our pupils are also encouraged to join local groups such as the Scouts and Brownies as well as doing dance, drama and music classes.
Do you offer specific therapies for pupils?
We have many trained staff that specialise in particular areas like speech and language or occupational therapy. We make sure the particular needs of each child are met.
Tell me about the residential care offered by RSDCM
We provide great residential care for children. There is a great homely atmosphere and there are trained staff available constantly to manage the residential provision. We ensure each child is individually cared for and feels at home.
What support do you offer children to progress beyond the school?
We provide our pupils with the support and encouragement to move into further education, if it is the right thing for them, after they leave our school. They can transfer to our own Westgate College or onto other educational establishments or employment, with the help of our Transition Co-ordinator.
