Medical Support

Our medical care and provision is excellent. We cover a number of different health and physical issues which makes us stand out above other establishments.

Medical Department Services

We have 24 hour nursing care and access to the best medical support:

  • 24 hour nursing care and assessments including Short Break cover
  • Admission beds for un-well young people
  • GP clinics held on-site
  • Referral to other specialists
  • We facilitate Mental Health Consultant visits from Deaf Services and liaise directly
  • Facilitate dental assessments
  • Immunisations on-site
  • Phlebotomy (blood tests) provision on-site
  • Active Health promotion and education for our young people
  • Weight, nutritional and keeping fit programmes
  • First Aid provision
  • Medication reviews
  • Extensive training for staff

Vision Support

We test and assess our pupils sight on a regular basis:

  • We hold an outreach eye clinic on our site three times a year
  • It is run by our local Consultant Ophthalmologist and is open to all of our young people
  • We have access to the services of a 'sympathetic' high street optician
  • We offer supported sight test appointments at the above
  • We can carry out functional vision assessments
  • We have a qualified teacher (visual impairment) and (multi-sensory impairment) on the staff role
  • We have on-going projects across the Trust to support Vision Aid
  • Overseas (recycle specs) and RNIB (used stamps)

Audiology Department Services

We carry out regular audilogy assessments for our pupils in order to ensure the needs of the hard of hearing are met. Services include:

  • Hearing assessments for all pupils and students at least annually
  • Earmould impressions
  • Hearing aid care and basic maintenance of equipment
  • Test box evaluations
  • Organisation of hearing aids repairs and liaison with clinics / authorities for replacement of lost or damaged aids
  • Audiology training and advice for staff and students
  • Provision of FM radio systems if appropriate
  • Pre-admission assessments (WGC)
